Watching Someone Become

Some people teach you without sitting you down.

Without lectures.

Without instructions.

They teach you by living.

My sister is my role model in the quietest, most grounding way. I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again—I love her deeply. And so much of who I am becoming, the confidence I’m growing into, and the steadiness I now recognize in myself came from being loved by her.

Her love is secure.

Pure.

Uncomplicated.

It doesn’t rush me. It doesn’t demand performance. It simply stays.

Some months ago, she posted a series of words on her Instagram story—reflections about becoming, staying, discipline, hunger, and choosing yourself over familiarity. I found myself going back to read them again and again. Not because they were loud, but because they were true. Grounded. Earned.

Reading her words felt like watching someone stand fully in the life they built—slowly, deliberately, without apology.

And it made me realize something: proximity matters.

Being close to someone who chooses growth, who honors discipline, who stays when it would be easier to disappear—it changes you. It teaches you what is possible without ever saying, “Do this.”

Half of the confidence I carry today came from being loved in a way that didn’t feel conditional. A love that didn’t shrink me or rush me, but gave me room to become.

If I could be half the woman she is… do you know what that would be?

It wouldn’t mean being perfect.

It would mean being grounded.

It would mean staying.

It would mean choosing integrity over ease, growth over comfort, truth over performance.

And that feels like enough to aspire to.

This isn’t a post about comparison.

It’s a thank-you note.

To the women who go ahead of us.

To the love that feels safe.

To the examples that don’t shout but still shape us.

I’m watching.

I’m learning.

And I’m grateful.

If I’ve given you even half of what you just described, then I’ve done my job. I love you deeply.
